About Dr. Shahar Somer
OrthoPet Pro was founded by Dr. Shahar Somer, an experienced veterinary surgeon with a particular focus on advanced small animal orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery.
Since qualifying as a veterinary surgeon in 2014, Dr. Somer has gained extensive clinical and surgical experience, performing a wide range of procedures, including complex orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries.
He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery PGCert(SAS) and a General Practitioner Advanced Certificate in Small Animal Orthopaedic Surgery GPAdvCert(SAOS).
Building on his experience and success, Dr. Somer founded OrthoPet Pro in 2024, solidifying his dedication to expanding access to top-notch orthopaedic surgical services for pets in need.
Referral-Level Surgical Support for Veterinary Teams
OrthoPet Pro provides peripatetic surgical support to referring veterinary teams across the South East.
Dr. Somer works alongside the primary veterinary team to assess suitable cases, discuss treatment options, and provide surgical expertise where needed. Where appropriate, procedures can take place within the patient’s usual veterinary setting, allowing the primary team to remain involved in ongoing care.
His surgical work encompasses a wide range of advanced orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures, including cruciate ligament surgery TPLO, patellar luxation correction, complex fracture repair and reconstructive surgery.
TPLO Surgical Support
TPLO surgery is an important part of OrthoPet Pro’s orthopaedic service. For suitable dogs with cranial cruciate ligament disease, Dr Somer can review the clinical findings and diagnostic imaging before discussing whether TPLO is an appropriate option.
